Armstrong Technology provides professional design and support services for new build and major conversion design. The team has direct experience in supporting each phase of a project form conceptual design to the provision of detailed construction drawings and specifications for procurement and thereafter in-service design support.
Armstrong Technology undertakes concept and feasibility design studies in support of new build and major conversion projects. Typically these studies would include vessel arrangement and machinery space layout, outline marine systems design, preliminary powering and sea keeping analysis. The conceptual design could be supported by an estimate of vessel capital and through-life costs as well as a build programme.

Armstrong Technology provides detailed technical specifications, for both new build and conversion projects that enable clients to proceed with procurement. These key documents contain a definition of the scope to enable shipyards to tender. In particular the specifications define the Class and regulatory requirements, major structural and outfit arrangements as wells marine, electrical and control system requirements. In the case of a conversion, the major elements of the conversion are specified. The specifications would be supported by arrangement drawings.

Armstrong Technology provides detailed engineering design. The detailed design takes the concept to the level of Class approval and beyond if required by the client. It is at this stage that the company’s production and support knowledge comes to the fore. The design is developed to ensure not only that it meets functional requirements but also that it is optimised from a construction viewpoint. Similarly, the in-service support experience of the team is used to develop designs that have high availability and reliability as well as being easy to maintain.

Armstrong Technology provides independent design verification services relating to all aspects of hull and systems design. Independent assessments are carried out to verify that the design meets all Classification Society requirements, government legislation and regulatory authorities, MARPOL, SOLAS etc together with the client’s functional requirements. The aim of this service is to ensure that the client’s specifications and the corresponding contractors’ proposals are compatible with the design intent.
