Armstrong Technology provides a comprehensive design and support package for every phase of major projects. Our range of services include: - conceptual design, investment appraisals and strategic support in FEED studies, to the provision of detailed construction drawings, cost estimation, bid assessments and technical specifications for procurement.

Armstrong Technology has undertaken concept engineering/design and feasibility studies in support of Front End Engineering Design (FEED) activity for new field developments.

Typically we would undertake:
  • Environmental Data Evaluation
  • General Arrangement
  • Hull Motion Characteristics
  • Hull Outfitting Arrangements
  • Mechanical Systems Philosophy
  • Model Testing & Evaluation
  • Identification of applicable standards
  • Structural Design Arrangements
  • Mooring Interfaces
  • Electrical System Philosophy
  • Offloading Philosophy
Armstrong Technology provides detailed technical specifications, for both new build and conversion FPSO projects that enable clients to proceed with procurement. These key documents contain a definition of the scope to enable shipyards to tender. In particular the specifications define the Class and regulatory requirements, major structural and outfit arrangements, turret or spread mooring systems and offloading systems integration as well as marine, electrical and control system requirements. In the case of a conversion, the major elements of the conversion are specified. The specifications would be supported by arrangement drawings. Consultancy support in developing a construction or conversion strategy, which complements the overall project programme, could be provided.

Armstrong Technology provides detailed engineering design for FPSO/FPU/FSUs. The detailed design takes the concept to the level of Class approval and beyond if required by the client. It is at this stage that the company’s production and support knowledge comes to the fore. The design is developed to ensure not only that it meets functional requirements but also that it is optimised from a construction viewpoint. Similarly, the in-service support experience of the team is used to develop designs that have high availability and reliability as well as being easy to maintain. In this context, specialist support is available from relevant Babcock companies.

Armstrong Technology regularly collaborate with topside/process design companies and work in close co-operation with them to ensure that the interfaces between the hull and the process equipment are properly engineered.

Armstrong Technology provides independent design verification services relating to all aspects of FPSO/FSU/FPU hull and systems design. Independent assessments are carried out to verify that the Shipyard/EPC Contractor’s design meets all Classification Society requirements, government legislation and regulatory authorities, MARPOL, SOLAS etc together with the client’s functional requirements. The aim of this service is to ensure that the client’s specifications and the corresponding contractors proposals are compatible with the design intent.

This support is also available to clients, who usually provide detailed drawing construction packages themselves. Design verification of the conceptual/preliminary design engineering is critical. The company’s approach ensures that the contractors' detailed engineering design, complies with the design intent requirements of the client.
